Linked Lists – do Part A and Part B

Add the following cases:

            case 5: list.length()

            case 6 : SOP ( list);

            case 7: list.removeLast()

            case 8: list.replace(oldVal,newVal)

            case 9: list.printRec()

            case 10: list.printRecBkw()

Turn in final source and output.  Use the following data:

First: try each of the methods you wrote with an empty list.

Second: add 1 element to the list and try each of your methods again.

            Then using the following codes:

                        1: add 66 and 32 to front

                        2: add 55 and 24 to end

9: print list (with recursive method)

6: print the list again with case 6 to test toString() method

                        7: remove last

                        1: add 66 again

                        4: print list

                        8: replace 66 with 999

                        4: print list

                        0: quit

Part A. A Linked List of Integers

File IntList.java contains definitions for a linked list of integers. The class contains an inner class IntNode that holds information for a single node in the list (a node has a value and a reference to the next node) and the following IntList methods:

public IntList()—constructor; creates an empty list of integers

public void addToFront(int val)—takes an integer and puts it on the front of the list

public void addToEnd(int val)—takes an integer and puts it on the end of the list

public void removeFirst()—removes the first value from the list

public void print()—prints the elements in the list from first to last

File IntListTest.java contains a driver that allows you to experiment with these methods. Save both of these files to your directory, compile and run IntListTest, and play around with it to see how it works. Then add the following methods to the IntList class. For each, add an option to the driver to test it.

1.         public int length()—returns the number of elements in the list

2.         public String toString()—returns a String containing the print value of the list.

3.         public void removeLast()—removes the last element of the list. If the list is empty, does nothing.

4.         public void replace(int oldVal, int newVal)—replaces all occurrences of oldVal in the list with newVal. Note that you can still use the old nodes; just replace the values stored in those nodes.

Discussion topic

Sociological Imagination
C. Wright Mills’ “The Sociological Imagination” states:

“The Sociological imagination enables us to grasp history and biography and the relationship between the two within society. This is its task and promise. It is by means of the sociological imagination that human beings now hope to grasp what is happening to themselves as minute points of intersection between biography and history within society.”

Using Mills’ definition, how would you apply sociological imagination to your own life? what is the point of intersection between your personal biography and a social/historical event? (8 pts)

Discussion essay.

Using Mills’ definition, I could apply sociological imagination to my life with my fear of not getting into a top university. I find that society will reject me if I am unable to attend a top university and that society has depicted a picture where if you don’t get into a good school, you will struggle financially. The point of intersection with this dilemma can be rooted as far back as I can remember where growing up, the questions always asked were what school do you go to, what are your grades, and where do you want to go to college? That along with the media’s constant mention of only top universities made it seem that if you are to be in anything but the top, you will not be accepted.

The questions are here in below

1) Aggregation Practice – in each of the following situations, solve for either market supply or

marked demand

a. Derive market demand for a market with three consumers, having the respective individual

demand functions of: ????1(????) = 10 − ????; ????2(????) = 20 − 2????; and ????3(????) = 50 − 5????.

b. Derive market supply for a market with 15 producers, each of which has an individual supply

function given by ????(????) = 2 + 15 ????

c. Derive market supply for a market with two producers having the following for individual

inverse supply functions: ????1(????) = 4 − 2???? and ????2(????) = 4 − 12 ????.

2) Writing Profits Practice – in each of the following situations, write an expression for profits. Then

take a derivative with respect to Q and solve for the profit-maximizing Q.

a. The case where market price is equal to $30 and the cost function is ????(????) = 5 + 3????2.

b. The case where market price is equal to $130 and the cost function is ????(????) = 5 + 10???? +3????2.

c. The case where market price is left general, equal to the constant, ????, and the cost function

is ????(????) = ???? + (2

3)????2. Note that here when you find the optimal quantity, it will be a

function of ????.

3) Perfect Competition: Choosing Optimal Output

Consider potato farming in the US, a highly competitive market. Assume the market is perfectly

competitive, and that the market demand for potatoes is given by ???????? = 120 − 10???? and market supply

is given by ???????? = 84 + 2????.

a) Find the competitive equilibrium price and quantity of potatoes in this market.

b) Assume that one particular farmer, Joe, knows that his cost function is given by:

????(????) = 1 + ???? + 0.1????2

Find Joe’s profit-maximizing level of output, and calculate the profits he makes.

c) What if the price doubles? Now how much would Joe want to produce to maximize profits?

What are his profits now?

4) Perfect Competition – the White Company is a member of the lamp industry, which is perfectly

competitive. The price of a lamp is $50. The firm’s total cost function is given by:

????(????) = 1,000 + 20???? + 5????2

a. What level of output maximizes profits for this firm?

b. What is the firm’s economic profit at this level of output?

c. Should the firm produce or shut down in the short run? Explain why.

d. If the other firms in the lamp industry have the same cost function as the White Company, is the

industry in long-run equilibrium? Why or why not?

5) Perfect Competition – consider a perfectly competitive market that has 4 firms in it (assume it is

perfectly competitive despite their being only 4 firms). Two of the firms use technology A and two

of the firms use technology B. The respective costs of producing using technology A and B are

given by the cost functions:

????????(????????) = 10 + 2???????? + 3????????

2

????????(????????) = 3 + 3???????? + 2????????

2

Demand is given by ????????(????) = 20 − 1

5 ????.

a) Determine short run equilibria, i.e. optimal outputs for each type of firm, equilibrium quantity

for the market as a whole, and the equilibrium price, and then calculate equilibrium profits for

each type of firm.

b) What will we expect to happen in the long run? Will other firms enter? Will price stay the same?

How will this impact the two types of firms differently? Will both technologies be used in the

long run?

Purpose

This assignment serves three purposes:

It is an opportunity to apply the rhetorical concepts we’ve discussed so far in class

It asks you to practice those course concepts within the most common medium for

workplace communication (i.e. memos, e-mails, letters)

It encourages you to begin studying your own writing for criteria like style, tone,

effectiveness, and the audience-centered approach

Human resources/human capital metrics and predictive analytics.

Begin to review literature on topics related to human resource metrics and predictive analytics to identify relevant academic journals and other sources appropriate to those topics.  To complete a comprehensive and current search of relevant articles, books, and other sources related to the subject of human resources/human capital metrics and predictive analytics.  As one of the three cornerstone concepts of this course, the directional shift in human resource management to the increased reliance on quantitative measures of performance versus intuitive decisions based on aspiration, human capital metrics (also known as predictive analytics) is a subject for increased interest going forward. This Literature Review asks students to review the literature in this area, both traditional and current. Materials may include classics that date into the early years of the 21st century, but should also include sources dated in the last 5–10 years. The page length of the Literature Review should be between 4–6 pages (double-spaced, normal font size, and margins) and meet APA style.
